The Philadelphia 76ers have been trying unsuccessfully to buy Ben Simmons all summer. Now, however, it appears that the 76ers are shifting their focus to another all-star player.
The Athletic’s Derek Bodner wrote on Sunday that the 76ers are focused more on acquiring Damian Lillard than trading in Simmons. Bodner says basketball division president Daryl Morey “focused almost entirely on James Harden” when the former MVP forced his way out of Houston, and Morey pays equal attention to Lillard’s situation at the Portland Trail Blazers.
The 76ers believe they have enough fortune to land Lillard. The question remains, are the TrailBlazers ready to let Lillard go? Lillard made it clear over the weekend that he wasn’t impressed with TrailBlazer’s offseason. He also denied a report that he plans to ask the team to swap him.
However, if Lillard becomes available anytime this season, the 76ers are ready to strike a deal.
