It’s been over a year since we lost Chadwick Boseman. After his death, Disney announced that it would not cast the role of Black Panther again. Instead, Marvel Studio President Kevin Fiege said that the next installment “will continue to explore the world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters featured in the first film”. Boseman’s brother Derrick recently spoke about the recast, saying that the late actor would like his iconic role to be re-cast and continued.
Derrick told TMZ that Chadwick never expressed his wishes for the character before his untimely death. However, he believes his brother would approve of the recast of T’Challa. He stated that the character is bigger than just one person and Chadwick “knew the power of his character and the positive influence he has”. He also noted how the character had a huge impact on black youth and that killing a character like T’Challa deprives children of an example.
Derrick isn’t the only one who believes the role should be re-cast, however. Many fans have called for T’Challa to be rewritten amid reports of Letitia Wright’s uncertain future at the MCU as she is unwilling to follow vaccine protocols. Some have even started a petition to refill the role.
“Help us achieve our new goal of 45,000 signatures. Chadwick worked way too hard to bring King T’Challa to LIFE @MarvelStudios killing him prematurely. Let’s make both Chadwick and T’Challa the beginning of a legend, not the end of one. #RecastTChalla“Is the tweet.
