The Golden State Warriors might try to turn the Splash Brothers into Splash triplets. The Athletic’s Anthony Slater reported Monday that the Warriors were discussing internally the possibility of running on trade against Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard.
Hailing from Oakland, Lillard has emerged as a top trade candidate after reporting he is dissatisfied with the Blazers continuation because the organization has not turned the team into a championship-caliber team.
To get a run at Lillard, the Warriors would have to include both the appropriate salary (likely Andrew Wiggins’ contract) and some of their young assets like James Wiseman, Jordan Poole, and / or their two lottery tips in this year’s draft to keep the interest of the Awakening Blazers.
If the Warriors could get Lillard on board, you’d be watching one of the best shooting Big Three ever put together with Lillard, Steph Curry, and Klay Thompson.
When the Blazers are ready to move Lillard, few teams have enough fortune to pay them a royal ransom. The Warriors are one of those teams.
