Colin Kaepernick trained for the Las Vegas Raiders for over five hours on Thursday without an official deal. While reports said the practice was positive, Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels declined to comment to reporters about Kaepernick’s move, stating that he does not discuss players who are not currently on the roster.
“As is normal, we’re only going to talk about the people who are on our team,” McDaniels said. “[General manager] David [Ziegler] and his staff trained tons of people this spring and we really don’t comment on the ratings we’ve made; or what they looked like, what they didn’t look like.
“They’re kind of private to us as we look at things to try and make decisions to make the team better.”
Currently, the Raiders are starting at quarterback with Derek Carr, who signed a three-year, $121.5 million extension this offseason. The team also acquired Jarrett Stidham from the New England Patriots. If the Raiders sign Kaepernick, he would be looking at the third-string quarterback job.
Kaepernick has not been an NFL quarterback since 2016. Since then, the only other team known to have invited him to visit was the Seattle Seahawks in May 2017. If Kaepernick is serious about an NFL comeback, he needs to keep showing and proving at 34 years old that he still has the skills to stand on an NFL roster.
