The AMAs on Sunday evening made history and brought nostalgia with New Edition and NKOTB.
The American Music Awards featured two great acts from the 1980s on stage. New Edition and New Kids On The Block faced each other in the so-called “Battle of Boston”.
Hosted by Cardi B, she joked that she wasn’t even born when two of the biggest boy bands left their mark. The influence and fandom were still present as the current boy band, BTS could be seen in the audience, who enjoyed the nostalgic performance.
New Edition, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant were all in attendance. They stepped synchronized through “Candy Girl”, “Mr. Telephone Man ”and other songs while exchanging tunes with New Kids On The Block.
NKOTB, who took the stage first, served pop memories with “You Got It (The Right Stuff),” “Step by Step” and “Hanging Tough”. The brothers Jonathan Knight and Jordan Knight as well as Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood missed no notice when they represented for their neighborhood in Dorchester.
Jordan, Danny & Donnie are certified break dancers who all fought on the streets of Dorchester before starring in New Kids On The Block.
“Battle of Boston” was the first time in pop history that the natives of Roxbury, New Edition and NKOTB officially stood on stage together.
It won’t be the last, because New Edition and NKOTB have announced that they will go on tour together in 2022. New Edition will also have a residence in Las Vegas.
