On Thursday, the NCAA’s new NIL policy went into effect, allowing athletes to benefit from their name, image and likeness. Reggie Bush believes the NCAA should return its vacated Heisman Trophy after these changes.
Bush issued a statement Thursday saying he and his officials had reached out to the NCAA several times in an attempt to reinstate his Heisman trophy and records.
Bush won the Heisman Trophy in 2005 after a season in which he dominated with 2,611 all-purpose yards and scored 18 touchdowns. His strong performance led him to rank # 2 in the Saints’ overall standings.
Bush was basically fined by the NCAA when it was found he was receiving improper benefits while at USC. Bush firmly believes that the benefits he received off the field did not affect his performance on the field.
Since the Supreme Court ruling on Monday, which essentially states that the NCAA should have given its student-athletes the opportunity to make money from their own likeness, you can easily see where Bush is here from.
