Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight recently spoke about selling his life rights for an upcoming biopic.
According to Meeting, Producer Steve Whitney and his company TSW Films bought Suge Knight’s rights to life. You have already started hiring writers for the script.
“There has been so much talk – a lot – about Compton, me, downtown, and death row in the past 30 years. Even when it came to making my film, there were so many scammers saying they had my rights or they got the deal – that was and is all talk, “Knight said. “I jumped off the porch in my neighborhood at a young age but never forgot where I came from. Most people try to drive for the mountains, I’ve made it and tried to bring so many people with me to the mountains and feel like I was successful at it. “
Suge also explained how he met Whitney through an association with Eazy-E’s Ruthless Records.
“I met a guy named Mike Klein who was with Ruthless,” he said. “David Kenner was on the phone with Michael Harris and they set up a meeting with Jerry Heller and during that meeting they tried to sell Dre back to Ruthless behind my back. Mike Klein told me about it and I respect him for it – we became friends. When it was time to make a real movie and tell the truth about it, he introduced me to Steve Whitney. Now Steve, Mike and I and the woman who’s got my back are doing this movie. Take it to the next level! “
Suge is currently behind bars at the RJ Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego. He won’t be available for parole until 2037. In 2018, Suge pleaded no appeal for driving his car against Heavyweight Records co-founder Terry Carter and filmmaker Cle Sloan in 2015. The incident resulted in Carter’s death while Sloan suffered a mutilated foot and head injuries. Suge claimed his actions were self-defense.
