Some of the biggest members of the R&B girls group of the 90s and 2000s are banding together in a new super group.
Eight former platinum sales group members including 702, Total, Danity Kane, 3LW, Blaque and Cherish will be part of BET’s new reality show, BET Presents The Encore, which premieres next month.
The cast includes Pamela Long from Total, sisters Irish and LeMisha Grinstead from 702, Shamari DeVoe from Blaque, Aubrey O’Day from Danity Kane, Kiely Williams from 3LW, and twins Felisha and Fallon King from Cherish and Grammy nominees Singer Nivea, who had a hit with “Don’t Mess with My Man” in the early 2000s.
According to The Associated Press, the singers will live together for 30 days recording an album in a home studio, learning choreography, and practicing singing.
Interest in the show grew last year after a clip of the pilot starring 3LW’s Williams and former Destiny’s Child member Farrah Franklin was leaked. After the video went viral, BET lit an entire season of the 10-episode series in green.
“I’m super proud of this show,” said executive producer Carlos King, who has produced shows such as The Real Housewives of Atlanta. “It’s a love letter to groups of girls. It’s a love letter to the genre that I think has always been super underrepresented, and I really hope the success of this show will bring record labels back to investing more in girl groups. I definitely think there is an appetite for it. “
Premiere of “BET Presents The Encore” on June 9th.
