Two days after his shocking death, Virgil Abloh’s music and fashion friends got together to honor him at Louis Vuitton’s “Virgil Was Here” show in Miami on Tuesday.
Kid Cudi, Quavo and Offset walked the catwalk alongside the models, wearing the designer’s groundbreaking Spring-Summer 2022 collection. A three-story statue of Virgil with his Louis Vuitton portfolio in hand greeted the guests during the event, which took place during Art Basel.
Kanye West sat in the front row next to Kim Kardashian and her daughter North while there were Pharrell, Gunna, Lil Baby, 21 Savage, DJ Khaled, Bella Hadid, and more.
The emotional show ended with the Louis Vuitton design team taking the stage to a standing ovation, some of them crying.
An inspirational quote from Virgil played in the final moments. “There is no limit. Life is so short you can’t even waste a day subscribing to what someone thinks you can instead of knowing what you can, ”he said as fireworks exploded over the skyline.
The creative director of Louis Vuitton and founder of Off-White died Sunday after a two-year battle with cardiac angiosarcoma, a rare cancer. He was 41.
Beyoncé, Drake, Frank Ocean, Tyler, the Creator, Cardi B and Kim Kardashian were among those who shared touching tributes, while Kanye dedicated the Sunday service to the DONDA Creative Director.
