Lil Nas X put a date on it.
The rapper has announced that his debut album Montero will arrive on Friday 17th September. He shared a trailer on Twitter in which he reports on his escape from prison and describes himself as a “talentless homosexual”. The 90-second clip also features a brand new song called “That’s What I Want”.
“I want someone to love me / I need someone who needs me,” he sings. “Because it doesn’t feel right when it’s late at night / And it’s just me and my dreams.”
Montero has produced a trio of singles including “Industry Baby” with Jack Harlow, “Sun Goes Down” and “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” which debuted at # 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Making this album was therapy for me. i have learned to let go of the attempt, to control people’s perception of who i am, what i can do and where i will be. I realized that the only opinion of myself that really matters is my own.

Nas plans to share more of his truth on the 15-track album. “Creating this album was therapy for me,” he said in a statement. “I’ve learned to let go of trying to control people’s perception of who I am, what I can do, and where I will be. I realized that the only opinion of mine that really matters is my own. “
Five days before the album is released, Nas will perform at the MTV Video Music Awards 2021. He was also recently named Chief Impact Officer at Taco Bell, his former employer, where he will appear in commercials and contribute to future branding experiences.
