Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma’s five-year-old beef is back in the spotlight.
The rap rivals exchanged disses back in 2017, but they’ve refrained from talking about each other in recent years. During her appearance on Drink Champs this week, Remy revisited her famous feud with Minaj.
In February 2017, Remy dropped “shETHER,” a seven-minute diss aimed at Nicki after Nicki appeared to take subliminal shots at Remy on songs like Jason Derulo’s “Swalla” and Gucci Mane’s “Make Love.”
When asked by NORE if she ever considered Nicki a “girlfriend,” Remy replied, “Girlfriend is such a strong word. We had conversations, regular conversations.”
But she admits her beef surprised her even as she claims they spoke beforehand and agreed not to come one after the other.
“I never saw that coming because I felt like we had a conversation because I’d been in this predicament before where I was the girl who just walked in,” she said. “I just felt like anything I say, people will say I’m talking about her, anything she says, people will say she’s talking about me, so let’s make an agreement, that we never talk about each other.”
According to Remy, things changed after she got wind of comments Nicki had reportedly made about her. “It was just certain shit that was going on behind the scenes, messages that I saw that I knew weren’t made up and I was just like, ‘No.'”
When asked if they’re “in a good space now,” Remy said, “Not that I know of.”
Part of the Drink Champs interview was posted by The Shade Room, which led to a response from Nicki himself. She clarified that she and Remy didn’t speak to each other, however the clip doesn’t give any context to the timeline.
“He must be misunderstanding what she is saying to him. He said? ‘You tell her that?’” said Nicki. “For the record, I never had that conversation with her or anyone.”
She then turned her attention back to her new song with Fivio Foreign, “We Go Up,” which was released earlier today. “So you guys like the new song ‘We Go Up’ by @fivofeign_8fs????” she asked.
