The only adult suspect charged with the murder of Pop Smoke insists that he did not intend for the rapper to be killed.
Corey Walker, 20, appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom Friday when his defense attorney Christopher Darden filed a motion to dismiss his murder and robbery charges, claiming Walker opposed all violence before Pop Smoke was fatal in a home invasion robbery was shot on February 19, 2020.
“It is clear from the evidence that [Walker] did not enter the house, was not armed, and did not personally kill the victim. In addition, the evidence is clear that the defendant did not share the actual murderer’s intent to kill, ”Darden wrote on the file received from Rolling Stone.
Walker reportedly insisted that “if it becomes necessary for the suspects to defend themselves, they should use a vase of flowers instead of shooting someone.” Darden said his client “did not plan this crime” and “carefully insisted that his weapon not be fired”.
Walker allegedly “attacked” the shooter when he learned of the shooting.
Prosecutors say Walker and four others planned to steal his cash, gold chain and diamond Rolex from Pop Smoke after seeing it on social media. The Brooklyn rapper was showering at his rented home in Hollywood Hills when the masked attackers confronted him. He was allegedly killed by a suspect who was only 15 years old at the time.
A hearing is scheduled for December 3rd. Walker’s trial is expected to take four weeks.
