T-Pain opens a collaboration with Nicki Minaj that never happened.
During an interview with Desus & Mero, T-Pain revealed that the two had plans to work together early in Nicki’s career in 2007, but the Young Money rapper stopped responding to his lyrics.
“She said, ‘Hey, I’m an artist too, I’m working on my shit, so you know, baby chill,'” recalled T-Pain, heartbroken when Nicki turned him down for working on her own music.
When he asked her for a “quick little verse,” she supposedly told him, “I’m working on my shit too!”
He didn’t see her rejection as a “malicious” move, but admits that his feelings got in the way. “Maybe I was in love with Nicki Minaj,” he added.
However, Nicki cannot remember wiping T-Pain off. After the interview aired she replied to him and it was all love.
“I don’t remember at all, but it definitely sounds like something I would say,” she wrote in a comment on The Shade Room before admitting she made a mistake. “Oh, what was I thinking? He was a really great artist. I was still underground. Chileeeeee I used to have so much fun that I had so much pressure to deliver. “
She further apologized and thanked T-Pain for deleting the “Go Hard” sample on her newly released mixtape Beam me up, Scotty. “My bad baby, all the best. I have no respect for your talent. and thanks & Kanye for deleting ‘Go Hard’ for Beam me up, Scotty Last month.”
She also praised the Auto-Tune King, whose singing she studied. “Listening to you over and over again on this record taught me SM about harmonies and background vocals. Your singing on this song alone is GOATED FOR LIFE. I’ve listened to every single detail, ”said Nicki.
