TI continues to defend DaBaby following its homophobic comments.
After speaking up earlier this week, the Atlanta rapper went live again on Instagram in an attempt to streamline DaBaby’s hateful smear speech during his Rolling Loud Miami set.
“Everyone is excited and angry about what DaBaby said. I understand people say they feel like it’s insensitive, ”TI said, according to Complex. “I think you have to understand that on stage, this is not the place where rappers are sensitive and calm everyone’s feelings. It’s a place to have a good time. “
According to Tip, DaBaby has been the victim of bullying by the LGBTQ + community. “Why do words trigger such a visceral response that leads to someone trying to attack, vilify, demonize, crucify, condemn and the like, this shit is like, now you are bullied,” he added.
He also claimed to be an ally of the gay community but now believes the tables have turned. “We all stood up for gays and lesbians and people in the gay community because we thought it was nonsense that you all had to be bullied,” he said. “But I don’t think either of us did this to feel like you now have the authority to harass us.”
Earlier this week, TI defended DaBaby when he tried to compare him to Lil Nas X. “If Lil Nas X can kick his shit in peace … Dababy should be too,” he commented.
Others, including Tory Lanez, Boosie Badazz, and Timbaland, appear to have endorsed DaBaby, while many on social media have called for his rejection. Despite his half apology, the rapper “Ball If I Want To” was dropped by fashion retailer boohooMAN and removed from the UK Parklife festival lineup.
His fellow entertainers, including Elton John, Questlove, and Dua Lipa, have condemned his comments, while Chris Brown also appeared to be intervening in the controversy.
