Travis Scott’s comeback is in full swing.
Just days after his return to the stage at the Billboard Music Awards, the Houston rapper surprised fans with his first Nike drop of 2022.
The Cactus Corp. Collection includes apparel and Travis’ version of the Air Trainer 1. To give fans a better chance of scoring the sneakers, which come in Gray Haze and Chocolate colorways, he ran a sweepstakes. A source close to Travis told TMZ that in just 30 minutes after the sweepstakes started, over a million people signed up.
Inspired by “Texas workwear”, the collection also includes rain jackets, hiking pants and insulating vests. It was originally supposed to arrive in December but was delayed in the wake of the Astroworld festival, which resulted in 10 deaths.
Travis’ relationship with Nike began in 2017 with the release of his first Air Force 1 design. Over the years they have collaborated on popular releases like the Air Jordan 33, Air Jordan 1, Air Jordan 6 and the SB Dunk.
If there was any doubt as to whether he would have the same appeal with fans, the entire Cactus Corp. collection sold out in minutes. Travis shared a thank you note after the drop, writing: “Emotions high. love you guys.”
He’s reportedly planning more Nike drops next week, including an Air Max next Friday.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Travis will award $1 million in scholarships to 100 students at HBCUs. Any prospective graduate who completes their final semester with at least a 3.5 GPA will be awarded a $10,000 grant from Travis’ Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund.
On Sunday, he made his first television appearance since Astroworld at the Billboard Music Awards, where he performed “Mafia” and debuted his new song “Lost Forever.”
